Northend FoodBank
WHO WE ARE
The Northend Church Food Bank is a community-driven initiative powered entirely by volunteers. Our dedicated team consists of Northend Church congregants, neighbours, and Community Partners, including several local businesses that have joined us in our mission to support those in need.
What Do We Do?
Each week, we provide food to individuals and families in need, who can order monthly. Guests can place their orders online or by phone if they lack internet access. Initially serving just a few families each week in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we now serve over 240 families monthly. Our site often reaches capacity within minutes of opening. In 2023 alone, we distributed 106,600 lbs of food to 6,860 people.
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
– Malachi 3:10
In addition to our monthly distributions, we provide food weekly to several local organizations, including:
Chez Marie Refugee Centre
Women4Women Centre
50+ teen moms through STRIVE and Youth Unlimited
How We've Grown
Our food bank has become more than a service; it is a community. The Spanish Grupa Vida and Ukrainian life groups meet weekly at Northend to study God's Word, build social connections, and support one another. Our prayer team, consisting of 10-12 partners, reaches out to Food Bank guests who request prayer and connection.
Each week, financial planning and budgeting assistance are offered through the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) program, with group seminars to help individuals achieve financial stability.
Northend FoodBank Partners
Through these partnerships, we procure over $250,000 in in-kind food donations annually, significantly offsetting the cost of food. Our collaboration with Second Harvest Food Rescue allows us to rescue $100,000 worth of food each year, preventing 33,330 lbs of greenhouse gases.
Support Our Food Bank
The Northend Church Food Bank is run entirely by over 100 unpaid volunteers, ensuring that 95% of donations go directly to grocery costs, with only 5% allocated to administration, including our Food Bank Manager's website, packaging, and vehicle costs. Your support helps us continue our mission to provide essential food resources to our community.
